This year’s Sunbury Open Gardens event is on Sunday 12th June 2016
Welcome to Sunbury Open Gardens. Held once a year the event allows Sunbury’s keen gardeners to share their passion and generate vital funds for various charities. This year they’re supporting St Mary’s Church and the Princess Alice Hospice.
Everyone is invited to come along and have a nosey around the gardens. There will be coffee, tea and cakes, a raffle, plant and book sales, ploughman’s lunch* and free activities on offer.
The gardens will be open from 11am until 5pm on Sunday 12th June 2016.
Tickets are £4 in advance, £5 on the day, children free.
Each year new gardens are introduced into the scheme, and old ones revisited, to offer visitors the opportunity to see what lies behind those hedges and walls. Historic sites abound and hundreds of people have seen Saxon burial mounds, ice houses, old wells, Second World War air raid shelters and much more. Gardens have varied from the pocket sized urban garden to the large walled garden with ancient trees. Each is individual and, hopefully, provides the germ of an idea to be taken and used elsewhere. The organisers are eternally grateful to the volunteers who preen their gardens before the event, and then spend long hours talking to the interested visitor.
So come along and enjoy the gardens. Not only will you be supporting worthy causes and enjoying others gardens, but you may also go away with that germ of an idea for your own garden.
*Ploughman’s lunches need to be pre-booked and prepaid by Wednesday 8th June. Please call 01932 786675 to order.
